Jenolan Caves, NSW

Instead of the usual day trip to Jenolan Caves we are going to stay 2 nights in the Jenolan Caves Cottages, which is about 8kms or a 15 minute drive from the caves, situated within 2416 hectare reserve. Jenolan Caves is about 2.5-3hr drive from Sydney along the M4 going through the Blue Mountains.

Day 1 :

At the Jenolan Caves cottages there are 8 self-contained cottages. Ours has 3 bedrooms, containing a 2 queen/double beds and 4 bunk beds (linen included). Cottage includes bathroom and kitchen.

There are always kangaroos around the cottages. They are not scared of us, but wont allow us to get to close.

The accomodation has a fireplace in the lounge room., with a TV and DVD player. No TV reception so bring some DVDs or board games to play.

Peek-a-Boo! First time kids have seen a joey in mothers pouch.

There are BBQ facilities.

And a playground for the kids.

Day 2:

We are off to Jenolan Caves. After parking the car, we take a walk down to Jenolan River, which is situated near the entrance to the caves. Pristine, clear, cool water.

There are a number of cave tours and adventure tours to choose from. Check out the timetable here.

We visited the Imperial and River cave. Check out some of the photos below.

To me it looks like a fortress.

Tips

- bring all your food with you if staying at the cottage. Nearest kiosk or restaurant is at Jenolan caves

- bring your own pillows. You never know if the pillows are too hard or soft for your liking.

- arrive at Jenloan Caves early so you can book the cave tours you want to do. Most people coming from Sydney will arrive mid-morning and leave mid-afternoon. We did early morning and the last tour of the day. Less people in the tour group.

Costs

- accomodation : Jenolan Cottage $195 per night minimum of 2 nights

- Prices for Cave tours start from $32 per adult, $22 per child/pensioner or $75 per family
