Every year Canberra hosts Floriade, a celebration of spring. More than 400,000 people visit Floriade every year. The festival this year (2015) starts 12th September to 11th October.
I've been a few times and this year we had perfect weather again.
The celebration is mostly of the Tulip, but also many other spring flowering varieties.

There are some amusements for the kids, including a ferris wheel and a giant slide.

There is also a Japanese Bonsai display.

When finished at Floriade there are other sights to see nearby at the pond or lake.

Tips
Best to go to Floriade at the start of the festival.
Costs
Entry to Floriade is free.
