South West Rocks

It's school holidays time again and this October we are spending a week camping at South West Rocks at the BIG4 Sunshine South West Holiday Park.

By the time we arrive it is late in the afternoon and while everyone is having their dinner im still setting up camp (South West Rocks is about 6 hours north of Sydney).

The holiday park has a fantastic swimming pool for the kids.

You can also hire a cart.

And they have a playstation, tennis court, pool table, and some arcade machines.

You can see plenty of kangaroos around SWR, but also right in the holiday park itself.

Just make sure you don't leave any food lying around, as this camper will find out when they come back.

There's plenty of fishing spots. Here we are on the banks of South West Rocks Creek. Didn't catch anything edible but the kids had fun.

The following day we tried our luck further downstream, but the fish weren't biting for me. Very relaxing and beautiful scenery though.

We visited the Smoky Cape Lighthouse. Plenty of kangaroos around again.

It's a steep walk to the lighthouse, which my son struggled with. Just being Lazy!

At the top, there are excellent views along the coast.

Close by to the Lighthouse is Little Bay. Beautiful beach, lovely cliffs, BBQ areas, plenty of kangaroos, but we were warned not the best place to swim due to the strong currents.

Enjoying our time at the beach in SWR just across from the Lifesaving Club. Ideal place for kids to have a swim, we found it quite shallow and ideal to just lay around in a boat.

Although the drive from Sydney or Gold Coast is about 6 hours it really is a beautifu place to take the family and relax, or trek on bushwalks around the town. During spring it also a great place to see whales migrating south. There are Whale watching tours from SWR but you can see plenty from the beach or from the lighthouse. We probably saw about 7-10 whales in the 6 days we were here. Also being spring, most of the kangaroos also had joeys in there pouches.

The holiday park, was great for the kids, with plenty pf activities to do.

Tips:

- check out the SeaBreeze Beach restaurant across the road from the SWR beach. The food was yummy and good value.

- for ice-cream check out Chillati Gelato on Memorial Ave. Home made ice-cream. We couldn't stop going back, 2 times a day.
